EI like it - Sustainable egg colouring

Easter without colorful Easter eggs? Inconceivably! In our latest blog post, we show you how you can dye Easter eggs naturally - without any synthetic dyes. It is  very sustainable, because you can make natural colors yourself with natural materials such as onion skins, carrots, beetroot or turmeric.

Natural colors from your own garden are now very popular. Although natural colors are often not as strong, they are free of artificial substances. Green, light brown, light red and light purple eggs can be colored particularly nicely. The most beautiful color result is achieved when dyeing white eggs with natural color sources!

Boil various plants in water for about 20-40 minutes and empty the brew through a sieve. Then cook the raw eggs in it for up to 10 minutes to give them a nice color. If you are not yet satisfied with the shade, let it soak in the brew a little longer.

After dyeing, you can polish the eggs with a little fat (lard, oil or butter). Put some fat on a soft cloth and rub it into the eggs.

Dyeing eggs works best with these natural products:

  • Yellow to orange: turmeric, curry, onion skins, carrots
  • Pink to red: beets, red onion skins
  • Purple and blue: red cabbage, elderberries, blackberries
  • Green: parsley, green tea, wild garlic, spinach leaves
