Interview. Emily Böhm.
The 19-year-old Emily from Germany, spent a season in the service area in our ElisabethHotel. With some distance and back in Germany, she tells us how she came to us and what she experienced.
What were your motives to work in Austria for a season? And why did you choose Mayrhofen in the Zillertal and our ElisabethHotel?
I graduated from high school in the spring of 2022 and decided to start a dual study program in civil engineering in the summer of 2023. I wanted to use the interim period to gain new experience and, of course, to earn some money - so I decided to work as a service employee in a hotel.
Since my family has been choosing the Zillertal as a recurring vacation destination for decades, the region has grown very close to my heart, and the idea of working there temporarily proved to be the ideal plan.
In my search for a suitable hotel, I came across both the Neuhaus Zillertal Resort and its sister establishment, the ElisabethHotel. The hotel facilities, benefits and employee accommodations convinced me, so I sent off my application documents and was pleased to receive a positive response just a short time later.
How did you like it or what did you enjoy most?
After a short training period, I was able to internalize the tasks and found my own routine. From then on, I enjoyed my work a lot. I really enjoyed the contact with guests and the helpfulness among colleagues. If anything was unclear or there were any questions, I'm sure they always supported each other.
What was your most beautiful, funniest or most emotional moment at the ElisabethHotel?
I had my most beautiful and emotional moments at Christmas and New Year's Eve. These days are also particularly stressful, but the mood among both the guests and the team was very warm.
The funniest day I'll definitely remember for a long time is Shrove Tuesday, when the entire team worked in costume.
What were your responsibilities at our house?
My workdays were usually divided into two shifts.
For breakfast, as part of the service team, I was responsible for clearing dishes from the tables, washing glasses, and bringing clean dishes to the buffet. Afterwards, we were already getting the restaurant area ready for dinner. Uncovered cutlery and glasses, cleaned up, vacuumed and mopped.
For dinner, in addition to serving the 5-course menus, my duties also included placing the new guests at their tables. Again and again I was allowed to take care of my own tables and guests - beverage advice, wine service, mixing cocktails and and... Afterwards we polished the cutlery, washed the glasses and set the empty tables already for breakfast.
You lived in one of our employee accommodations. What did you particularly like about it?
I got my own room within walking distance of work, could do my own washing and cooking. It was also nice to be able to talk to neighboring colleagues on the terrace after work.
How did you spend your free time and what do you remember most about it?
In my spare time I was often walking and exploring the area or meeting a friend for a coffee. I also often drove out of Mayrhofen to get to know the entire region, super fast with the regional public transport . Of course, winter hikes, sunny ski days and a toboggan ride were not to be missed.
Looking back, I am particularly happy about the purchase of a new dirndl in Mayrhofen. When wearing it at future festivities, it will remind me for a long time of my beautiful time in the Zillertal.
